Last week, AIM Peñasco and the local public university Tecnológico Nacional de México (TecNM) Puerto Peñasco Campus in Rocky Point signed an agreement that will greatly benefit our current college students and many of our students in the future.
Approved by Mexico’s Department of Education in Mexico City, TecNM Puerto Peñasco has agreed to reduce the tuition and registration costs for all AIM students. Twenty of our students will benefit immediately, with the 20 more expected to enroll this semester. Educational expenses for our college students make up the largest portion of our Steps of Love–AIM Peñasco overhead (tuition, registration, books, school supplies, uniforms, exam fees and transportation).
This unique agreement couldn’t have come at a better time. With the rising cost of private university tuition, the Steps of Love–AIM Peñasco partnership has started 2020 supporting the 56 students currently attending public universities and community colleges. The six students currently attending private universities will continue to receive financial support from AIM.
TecNM Executive Director María Jesús Reyes Ortiz and AIM Executive Director Carolina Pacheco Robles agreed on the need to join forces to provide financial and academic support to more students in the Rocky Point community.
Community partnerships like this continue to validate the work we are doing. Established institutions like TecNM are signing on and want to help Steps of Love–AIM Peñasco in our mission to provide better opportunities for young people through access to education. TecNM knows our students are academically strong and value their education.
Even with this timely new support, we still need your help in further easing the financial burden of higher education for these bright students who are studying engineering, business, nursing, education, robotics and more. Your donation goes a long way and will help these dedicated students become self-sufficient, working and contributing members of their communities.
